parasitic dermanyssoid mite
This is a blood feeding mite either from the family Dermanyssidae or Macronyssidae (Mesostigmata: Dermanyssoidea). The furniture may have been stored in a warehouse where there were nesting birds or rodents, and some of their mites ended up on the sofa. Unless the host bird/rodent is also nesting in the sofa, the mites won't maintain a population, but they might irritate the owners by biting them.

If the sofa spent some time in the purchaser's house, it's possible that the mite was actually from the house and not the store/warehouse.
