Petrophila - Petrophila heppneri

Petrophila - Petrophila heppneri
Harris County, Texas, USA
April 24, 2016
Which Petrophila?
Found nectaring close to the ground on a cloudy afternoon.
Thank you.

Moved from Petrophila.

Member of the fulicalis-species group
The Texas representative of the complex fulicalis-species group is P. heppneri. P. confusalis is the West Coast representative of this group. Geography is more important for putting names on specimens in this group than any particular field mark.

Moved from Butterflies and Moths.

Jose, I am "sitting on the fence" a bit. My best guess is P. confusalis Take a look at the John Davis photograph here. Note that all of the specimens on that page show the little broken black line above the very bold ST line on the hindwing like yours.

I see what you mean.
I also looked at all the P. jaliscalis in BugGuide because I thought that may be the next most likely possibility, but they do not show the broken line. I will just wait on a definite ID from you and the other knowledgeable people in BugGuide. Thank you.

Moved from ID Request.
