dark blue (beetle?) larva - Dicaelus

Size: ~2 cm
I found this larva and an otherwise identical smaller one scurrying across a dirt nature trail. They are a dark, slightly metallic blue. Their final segment protrudes a bit, in addition to a pair of cerci. Their heads are bright orange in color. They were constantly scurrying about and so it was difficult to get a clear picture.

No, probably just different instars...
They probably will not go for the fish pellets at all, Carabid larva will only eat fresh invertebrate flesh, not processed animal parts. The adults however are much less picky.
