Poplar Leaf-base gall - Pemphigus obesinymphae

Poplar Leaf-base gall - Pemphigus obesinymphae
Big Rock Creek, Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 7, 2016
The gall position at the base of the leaf rules out the other option, populitransversus, which as its name suggests forms the gall on the middle of the petiole itself.

Inside the gall is a woolly chamber with aphids.
