This is Ilecta intractata (Black-dotted Ruddy Moth), quite common and well represented in BugGuide for Alabama. The nice picture of the hindwing's underside made ID easy in spite of the absence of a dorsal view of the moth. And there is enough visible of the forewing's upper side to support my choice.
