Larva from pinyon tree, lateral - Pococera

Larva from pinyon tree, lateral - Pococera
Sandia Mountains, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA

I collected this larva on Apr 24, 2016 from a pinyon (Pinus edulis) on Embudito Trl. (No. 192) at 6983 ft elevation in the Sandia Mountains, Bernalillo Co. It created a dense web of silk fibers in the terminal branches to reside in. I removed it from the web for this image, taken on May 9, 2016. It produced a copious quantity of fecal pellets while in captivity, with inclusions that indicate it fed on needles.

I was unable to keep it alive long enough to pupate. I am keeping the desiccated larva for possible identification. Pityococcus rugulosus (Pityococcidae) gravid females apparently use the web for shelter to oviposit their egg masses therein. I would like to know what the host larva is for my study of the scale insect's lifecycle.

Moved
Moved from Pine Webworm.

According to University of Florida Featured Creatures, it appears to be too far west, too long, and not on a list of known pine species for P. rubustella. Solis 1993(1) (Table 2) states that there are 3 species of Pococera known to feed on Pinaceae (pine).

Moved from ID Request.

It's a bit west of the range cited in Info, but the markings are a very good match to the posted Pococera robustella (Pine Webworm) from TX (NM's neighbor).
