"Smallish" fly on dandelion - Lejops
Tuftonboro, Carroll County, New Hampshire, USA
May 10, 2016
Size: 3/8"
Can anyone help me with an ID for this fly? And is there a published guide that might help me with identification of the flies?

Moved from Lejops.

I don't know of a published book guide per se, but you might start here for the hoverflies, it's a nice visual key to the genera:

G.F.G. Miranda, A.D. Young, M.M. Locke, S.A. Marshall, J.H. Skevington, F.C. Thompson (2013) Key to the Genera of Nearctic Syrphidae. Canadian Journal of Arthropod Identification: No. 23, 23 August, 2013.

Moved from ID Request.
