Not sure how you are downsizing your images,
but would it be possible for you to crop your images more closely, to a rectangle that is essentially 'just the bug' before downsizing. It is better on BugGuide for the image to be essentially all bug for the thumbnails to work properly. We'll crop these last two so you can see what we mean.

 
I have been downloading the "
I have been downloading the "medium" sized image from my Flickr site. Then I upload it into Bugguide. I can crop the pictures tighter from now on. Please let me know if there is another or better way? I greatly appreciate the help on the identifications. I find them all very challenging to figure out.

 
Maybe it would work better to download larger images
from Flickr and then crop those to just the bug. That way we would end up with well cropped but larger images here. Whatever you think is best.
