Sculptured Pine Borer -
Chalcophora virginiensis
Harris County, Texas, USA
August 23, 2015
Identified by location. It appears that C. virginiensis is the only Chalcophora that ranges into Texas.

Maybe I misunderstood.
The article at
http://www.fs.fed.us/rm/pubs_other/rmrs_2014_maier_c001.pdf
refers to the two species as allopatric. Referring to C. Angulicollis, it includes the following statement: "Records of this species from Texas (Nelson et al. 2008) were based on a misidentification of C. virginiensis (Westcott and Bellamy 2013)."
I am a rank amateur that does not understand many of the terms used in such articles.
BugGuide also does not include Texas in the range of C. Angulicolis.
