Male - Scolia nobilitata
One feature of this genus is wings with
only two submarginal and two discal
cells. (and a smaller body size than most other Scoliids) 11 flagellomeres and 7 abdominal segments = ♂
So far, this is the only species in the genus on BugGuide, that has been placed to species level from your state.
S. dubia
usually has yellow spots on T3 only and
S. mexicana
is mostly dark all over. (
S. bicincta
is eastern and
S. guttata
is a southern Texas species.)
Here's one from California with darker wings: ♂
Here's one with lighter wings: ♂
(widespread range)
