I can't tell if I placed this in the wrong species or someone moved it? Still seems to be a Myelaphus from Dr. Cannings comment.

Dioctria pusio
Hi Herschel: Years later... This is Dioctria pusio. Way back when, I identified this incorrectly, calling it Myelaphus. It looks like the ID might still not be officially cleared up, so now you can do it!

Rob

Looks like you moved it from Myelaphus
in August 2009 which is when you made the page for Dioctria pusio. But there isn't any notation on why you made that change. Please move it where you think best.

Moved

Thanks ...
... to all of you for ID, comment and moving.

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.

This is not Laphria felis (Laphriinae) but rather Myelaphus lobicornis (Stenopogoninae: Dioctrini). The two species have similar coloration (presumably because they mimic similar wasp species) but Myelaphus is much more delicately built and has much longer antennae. The wing venation characters that help separate the subfamilies are not visible. In southern BC where this photo was taken Myelaphus is an uncommon grassland species.

Superb shot
Thanks for the heads up note on this. I missed it somehow.
