Saw it flying a short beat and then followed it to the ground. WOW! What an insect this is! Every time I uncovered it's hiding spot it would dumbly quickly to a new one. Docile once in hand

Must likely!
The overall habitut fit with the P. maculosus I know, but I never seen one with a so extended red color on the head in Québec. However, pictures on the guide show some specimen with this coloration in states southern of Québec, so I think you are right. Let see the opinion from expert from the USA!
