Size: 7-8mm
Appears to be grazing over rust on Arrow Arum (Peltandra virginica) leaf. Fly was in marsh habitat where Yellow Water-lilies were in flower: Stephen Marshall states in his book FLIES, that the species Parhelophilus rex occurs "almost invariably in Yellow Water-lily (Nuphar lutea) flowers".
