Size: 12-15mm
Saw this specimen in an experimental apple orchard located on the edge of an urban zone. Looks like some type of clearwing moth. Synanthedon scitula?

Correct ID - Dogwood borer

Looks right
S. scitula looks correct. Over recent years it has become a pest in Washington apple orchards.

 
Dogwood Borer
Fortunately, this has not reached pest status here in Washington state apples with only a few individuals collected since 2010. But its on our radar.
