Thanks for the ID, Bill. I did search the Syrphid photographic key but did not notice the note about the difference in the scutum (depressed) between this genus & Xylota. (Except for the abdominal banding, I thought this might be Xylota bicolor). You certainly have expert knowledge of syrphids.
