Satyrium tetra

Off Angeles Crest Highway, ~4650 ft. altitude, San Gabriel Mountains, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 24, 2007
Taking nectar in Eriogonum fasciculatum (California buckwheat).
Though similar to S. saepium , and S. auretorum , the frosty appearance produced by the white scales beyond the white postmedian line, can be used to differentiate the 'Mountain Mahogany' from the other two species.
Resources used for ID: (1), (2), and Art Shapiro's Butterfly Site .
