This beetle was crawling on the floor of a woodshed when I found it. It's covered with sawdust.

Thanks, Eric. I saw one of these same beetles while it was clean and located in the bright sun. Did it ever shine! It flew away before I could photograph it. Per your suggestion, I thought about cleaning the sawdust off this one but my wife already considers me 'crazy' for photographing 'bugs'. She might try to have me committed if she caught me giving a beetle a 'bath' before its photo session. ;)

From the size and the shining elytra
it seems that this would be C. violaceum, Yanega fig 217. It will be interesting to see what Ted or Guy say.
