Satyrium auretorum - female

Satyrium auretorum - Female
Off Angeles Crest Highway, ~5000 ft, San Gabriel Mountains, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 24, 2007
Though not absolutely certain, because this is a first sighting for me, I think this is a male (short 'tail' as opposed to the female's longer one) 'Gold-hunter's Hairstreak' as described in Pyle ((1)) -though spots somewhat worn -; and it is nectaring in Eriogonum fasciculatum (California buckwheat) adjacent to oak (Q. chrysolepis , with wislizenii nearby).
Any comments or other leads?

I would agree...a very distic
I would agree...a very distictive looking species to me at least!

Thanks, Tom,
it helps to gain some distance, then look at it again. This appears to be S. auretorum spadix , the only one described for SoCal by Emmel & Emmel ((1)), also by Ken Davenport (see Info page). For the time being, I think its best to lump it in the species.
