Not Quite a Lady Beetle - Jonthonota nigripes

Not Quite a Lady Beetle - Jonthonota nigripes
Picketwire Canyon, Otero County, Colorado, USA
May 28, 2016
Unfortunately not terribly cooperative. The green iridescence was visible even in flight. This beetle, which I first took to be a lady beetle based on size and color (and spots), was in the wide bottom of a canyon. Sides were red-rocked and juniper-strewn. Bottom covered well in grass and forbes and Opuntia (both the tree shaped and paddle shaped) with scattered yucca.
