Cryptic spider - Tmarus

Cryptic spider - Tmarus
Phelps Park, Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
May 9, 2016
This very cool cryptic spider was hanging out on the twigs of a young Ohio buckeye. I noticed it when I accidentally frightened it while looking for other bugs, and it ran a short distance down the twig it was on. At that time it was feasting on an ant it had recently caught, and it carried the ant with it as it moved. On the buckeye tree and in a jar provisioned with a twig, I found that this spider rests by stretching out its legs along a twig. It blends in extremely well, appearing from a short distance away as nothing more than a bud on the twig.
