Cryptic spider - Tmarus

Cryptic spider - Tmarus
Phelps Park, Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
May 9, 2016
I kept this spider in captivity to get these shots. For this shot, I set up the twig outdoors, just a few inches above the floor of my apartment's second-story walkway. As I photographed, the spider repositioned itself so it stood perpendicular to the twig, and lifted its abdomen high (after securing a silk line to the twig). Then it began releasing silk into the breeze. After a few moments, the silk line apparently caught on something, for the spider pulled on the line with its legs (as if to check that the line had securely attached to something), then crawled off the twig along its silk line, suspended in the air. I had to move quickly to recapture it!
