If my ID guess is correct, what a life-cycle these have!

In a pers. comm.:
with Warren Steiner of the Smithsonian Institution Department of Entomology, he said, "This one for sure looks like the Ceph to me. None of the Bombus-mimic syrphids are quite like this. Good pic, and possibly the 3rd MD record."
