Beetles, definitely.
Any idea what tree? That often helps narrow down the ID. They remind me of Willow Leaf beetles (below), but that's just a guess.

Thanks for confirmation of the ID. I do have an old willow nearby but these specimens were feeding on what I think is redbud.

interesting
it´s allways interesting to note the foodplant. I don´t know if redbud is known as a foodplant for this species, but these guys certainly seem to like its leaves. Maybe you can add an extra picture of the plant so somebody can confirm the plant id
