Common Baskettail confirmation request - Epitheca

Common Baskettail confirmation request - Epitheca
Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana, USA
June 2, 2016
Size: about 1 1/2 inch
I am working on identifying the dragonflies found at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, in Hammond IN. This is a new one for me to get a picture of. Have I ID'd this correctly as a male Common Baskettail? They each seem to choose a small area to patrol on our trails. Thank you for your time.

Baskettail
Definitely a baskettail. Probably Common. The other species in your area have much more dark in the leading edge of the wings. I'm a little uncertain because ours in eastern Ontario have a bit more black at the base of the wings, but I know they vary across the range and even locally.

Baskettail
Yes, I noted in the books that some of the pictures had black patterns at the base of the wing in Paulson's book. The Slender Baskettail doesn't have the spots, but the range map sorta leaves out NW Indiana as an option. The Beaverpond Baskettail is listed in only 1 Southern Indiana County in Curry's Dragonflies of Indiana. So I guess I defaulted to the Common. Hope I defaulted correctly. Thank you for your time, it is much appreciated as we try to ID the dragonflies in our Preserve.
