Mating Soldier Flies? - Microdon

Mating Soldier Flies? - Microdon
Alma, Albert County, New Brunswick, Canada
June 10, 2016
Size: ~1.5cm

Moved from Soldier flies.

Syrphidae, probably Microdon sp.
Syrphidae, probably Microdon sp.

I either wasn't seeing clearly or thinking straight when I made that move. Sorry for the misdirection!

No Problem Ken
Good to know the real identity. As far as species go would M. tristis be a likely candidate? The info on range says:

e. NA (NS-MB to PA-KS) + BC(1)

I wouldn't venture a guess :)
With luck, the syrphid specialists will know.

Thanks for cropping.

okie dokie
sorry about that. I wasn't aware of others not being able to zoom in. I usually just ctrl+= to zoom.

Please be sure to crop your pics... close to "just the bug" as possible. Only you and the editors have the ability to "zoom in" and view the full-size image. Everyone else is left looking at little bugs in a lot of unnecessary background. :)

You can click on "edit" and simply upload a cropped version. It will replace the current pic.
