This is a female of Laphria t
This is a female of Laphria trux; male has a bright yellow mystax and a large silver spot on back half of thorax.

Intense
Laphrinid appearing thing. I usually don't comment on CA robbers. It resembles L. felis but there may be something else in CA this impressive.

looking at all the robber flies I have not seen another of this color, the structure seems the same. I'm sure there right it is a robber fly but the color is amazing. I will look up L. felis, thanks so much!

 
And perhaps
the Prolepsis in CA sometimes have this intense coloration and no pale markings? If it is Prolepsis it is a stunner of one though they are all pretty stunning.

Id request and the larger looks like it has a white egg laid on it, is it a parasite?
