Size: ~10 cm wing spread
Adult with old damaged wings, flying in a riparian corridor and feeding off Scotch Thistle.

Swallowtail
I'm not sure if they even get to your area, but this looks like Black Swallowtail to me. The black-centred red spot in the bottom corner of the hindwing underside eliminates both Spicebush and Pipevine, I believe. There is the possibility of one of the dark forms of Old World Swallowtail (eg. "Baird's Swallowtail); I'm afraid I've very little experience with those, being from the east.
