Visitor to the garden. Seemed to like hanging around this flower and the ferns, especially in the sun.

I would agree that this is probably not identifiable to species and is best left as a female Sympetrum.

Thank you both for your comments. When I took the photo I wasn't thinking about indentifying the dragon fly. Now that I have found this site, future images will be made with identification in mind when possible.

Hello, great photo! This species is a female White-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum obtrusum)

 
Likely not obtrusum
White-faced is quite uncommon around here and I wouldn't call that face shining white. More likely Ruby (rubicundulum) or possibly Cherry-faced (internum). I've been calling them Ruby around this part of Middlesex county, but don't really know where the line between majority Ruby and majority Cherry-faced is.
