Thank you Curt.
There are probably many old BugGuide posts of "Selenophorus" like this one that need updating in light of new names and new synonyms reported by Messer & Raber (2021)

Selenophorus (Selenophorus) famulus Casey
is my image-based opinion. Enough here to distinguish it from similar S. palliatus (Fabricius) but the proof would be in specimen examined under scope. I suspect that many records of western "palliatus" are actually S. famulus; a suspicion reported in a forthcoming paper by Messer & Raber on the Texas Selenophorus. In meantime, I am happy to receive this specimen and other western examples for ongoing comparative work. Thank you Blaine for pointing the way.

didn't collect
I didn't collect this individual (if that's what you meant), but I've seen tons of beetles that look like this in the past two nights. I could try to collect one/some if you're interested.

Yes, I'm very interested in Californian Selenophorus.
I already have one small series of S. famulus from CA. I have yet to encounter my first S. palliatus from CA. My working hypothesis is that S. palliatus does not occur in California despite its catalogue listing there by Bousquet 2012. Same hypothesis for Arizona and possibly New Mexico. Just one good palliatus from those areas would prove me wrong!
Ryan you would be helping us with our taxonomic work. My BugGuide profile suggests safe ways to mail fragile specimens to my address. Thank you!
