Black bee - Bombus impatiens

Size: 1.4 cm
These bees were srarting a nest under a birdbath pedestal. Thought they were the ground, attacking bees. These bees only hit but didn't sting. Bigger than honeybee, smaller than bumble bee. Nest egg cells in photo.
