Several on mud among Spartina at back of salt marsh. Other flies from the marsh:

Dimecoenia spinosa (Loew)
Moved from Dimecoenia. ID'd from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Aaron.

New species/genus for the guide. Also look for Cirrula gigantea in similar habitat on algal mats; it's quite large, up to 8.5 mm.

It should
It should look similar to this or the Cirrula in the guide. A large chunky ephydrid I suppose. More information on these two genera can be found in (1)

Two large chunky ephydrids
I went back to the same location today and found two similar ephydrids, one substantially larger than the other. Look about right?
