Apantesis nais - male

Apantesis nais - Male
Somerville, Morgan County, Alabama, USA
June 23, 2016
Since phalerata/nais/carlotta/vittata are not reliably distinguishable by appearance, I performed examination of genitalia on this male, and am reasonably certain it is a specimen of nais. I'll be sending the now abdomenless specimen to BOLD for DNA confirmation of ID.

Edit: I wanted to add that this was a very close call with vittata, as the clasper and uncus seemed to be right in the middle of nais and vittata, but I believe the aedoeagus was distinct enough to be that of nais based on Learned's original figures. I wouldn't be surprised though if DNA sequencing reveals vittata instead.
