I think this the Colorado Soldier Beetle (Chauliognathus basalis), although I’ve probably not adequately eliminated
Chauliognathus deceptus.

Moved
Moved from Colorado Soldier Beetle. Pronotum does not seem as glossy as C. basalis.

Soldier Beetle
I am not certain what to make of these creatures with intermediate elytral patterns. Apparently, species within this genus do hybridize, so I guess that is possible. In any case, I am not confident that this beast is identifiable to specie.s I wish that I knew of other marks for separating deceptus from basalis, but I've not stumbled upon such -- except perhaps shiny vs "hairy" pronotum. If that mark is correct, then this would seem C basalis.

possible hybrid
I tried to change the name for this beast a while back with no luck. Thought I'd try again today, but my attempts again were unsuccessful!!
