Found this little guy on a blackberry I was about to eat. ID'd as S. diadema by spines on the pronotum, instead of blunt tubercles.

are spines diagnostic in nymphs?
Based on this observation, it appears that nymphs of both eastern species have spines on pronotum. Are we sure that nymphs of these species can be distinguished by this character?

Here is a paper I just came across that helps to distinguish nymphs between these two species. Yes, they both have spines as nymphs, so other chrachteristics need to be used as shown here, https://academic.oup.com/aesa/article/99/5/755/12140
