New small insect to ID -
Phymatodes nitidus
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
July 6, 2007
This was a very small insect about 1/4 inch on a fennel plant. Would appreciate any info about it. Thank you.

Cerambycidae.
Ted MacRae will probably know this one, but I'm placing my bets on the genus Phymatodes, a longhorned beetle. Nice shot, nice find:-)

This specimen agrees pretty well with both the
type specimen
of P. nitidus and
this
more similarly colored specimen. Despite Chemsak's ID of the specimen in the photo you reference as P. nitidus, it actually looks more to me like P. vulneratus (compare with
this specimen
). Note the broadly rounded pronotum of P. nitidus, versus the narrower and only slightly expanded pronotum of P. vulneratus, in addition to the differences in the elytral markings.
