Identification
In this genus, the subanntennal suture

is clearly bowed toward the eyes. In other Athidini this suture is straight. (2)

The colored “line” at the base of the head
and
angles to form a strong, shelflike appearance. It can sometimes cover a portion of the start of the thorax. (2)

The scutellum

appears swollen and overhangs the propodeum (2)
Range
NA and much of the Old World (warmer parts); across the US; A. notatum is the only sp. to reach Canada(1)
Remarks
The cells are attached to rocks or to vegetation.
