This wasp hatched out a few days ago from a cocoon found attached to the underside of a Coccinella septempunctata. I submitted a photo #1242774 of the beetle and the cocoon. the parasitoid was ID'd as the braconid Dinocampus coccinellae. Just want a confirmation. thanks

Braconid…
Have seen your previous submission. Would you care to mention who identified this originally as D. coccinellae?

D. coccinellae?
The identifier is metrioptera. Blaine Mathison was involved but did not do the ID. Do you disagree? If so, what do you think the parasitoid is?

Thank you...
The host appears to be correct, so I would have to agree that D. coccinellae would be the most likely parasitoid in this case.

See reference here.

? D. coccinellae
For what it's worth, when I pried the C. septempunctata off the cocoon, incredibly, the beetle was alive and was able to crawl away! Amazingly, the parasitoid must have gotten enough nourishment without munching away on the beetle's vital organs!

Behavior…
This particular host/parasite relationship is a little more complicated than it appears. Much has been written about it. An example here.

D. coccinellae
Thanks for including the article. It turns out to be more fantastic than science fiction! What a world we live in!

Indeed...
The reason we study this stuff.
