Megalodacne fasciata (Fabricius 1777)
Troy-
After asking one of my buddies for the details, I'm pretty sure this critter is not
Megalodacne heros
, but rather
M. fasciata
. Notice that the yellowish markings at the base of the elytra (to either side of the scutellum) do not extend medially in this specimen as they do in photo 1216. Also, it's a little more difficult to see, but the lateral margins of the pronotum in this specimen are evenly convex whereas they are more straight in photo 1216. Hence, a different species.
Note that the specimen in 11545 is similarly mis-identified- it is also
M. fasciata
. I'll add a note to that one as well.
cheers,
Zack

Subtle!
I'll take your word for it. I moved this photo and the other one to a new
fasciata
guide page.
Thanks for keeping us straight!

Subtle
Troy-
No problems. I just happened to know that both North American
Megalodacne
species looked extremely similar and always kind of wondered about the difference between them. Now you have pictures of both and we all know how to tell them apart!
cheers,
zack
