Apparent Sciota rubescentella

Apparent Sciota rubescentella
Joseph A Tauer Prairie Scientific And Natural Area, Brown County, Minnesota, USA
July 3, 2016
Looks same as the only Sciota rubescentella entry in BugGuide.

Matches host plant, on Amorpha canescens.

Thanks MJ, I have been encountering several species on leadplant the past couple days and your entries make at least a tentative identification easy.

Hi Brad,
Have you tried rearing a few larvae you've found on prairie plants, particularly ones you don't know? Imagine if every 4th prairie person were to try rearing just a few every year.

Yes, but it has been a while.
I tried unsuccessfully to raise in ~2013-14.
Also tried to raise (your record I didn't put this species on BugGuide) about the same time.

I haven't tried since then. I suppose I should probably try a few next year.

I've had very little success
with the various Lead plant galls. Whatever I am doing is wrong!
Good luck rearing, any larvae from prairie plants.
