Red, black, and fuzzy - Eichlinia cucurbitae

Red, black, and fuzzy - Eichlinia cucurbitae
Oakville, Ontario, Canada
July 2, 2016
My guess at size would be about 3/4 inch to 1 inch. It was hovering around and appeared to be feeding on a milkweed plant. Don't recall ever seeing this before in the garden but I might have missed it. I saw only one of these at this time. There was also a red milkweed beetle on the same plant.

Darn, just looked up some more pictures of Mellitia cucurbitae and it does look like you've nailed it. Does this mean good bye to my zucchini crop this year?
