Look what I just discovered: babies! - Anisotoma
Mt. Washington, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
June 30, 2007
Size: about 4 mm
This is evidence of why it's good to keep a few live bugs for observation. The beetles must have laid eggs in the fungal mass I collected and the larvae probably hatched in the past 48 hrs. I saw about a half-dozen exploring their environs inside the leftover container I kept the adults in. Neat reddish stripe down their backs. Note that they are longer than the adults at this young age.
