Paectes declinata?
The moth is listed on Powell's checklist for the island (no related species are included) and it does look a lot like Jeff Smith's pinned specimen at MPG:

There are only two images of this species in BugGuide, and surpringly there are no Euteliids for California on bugguide at all. Makes me sorta wish I had my camera.

But cool find! I didn't realize the family hadn't been recorded on the west coast on BugGuide before! By coincidence, a different species of
Paectes
wandered into my house tonight.

I had no idea either. And nice find yourself - must be
Paectes
season. Apparently this species is associated with laurel sumac which is pretty common here... knowing that, hopefully I can manage to run into another one (next time with my camera, hopefully).
