noctuoid - Paectes declinata
Avalon, Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California, USA

I'm sure I've seen this one on bugguide before but I can't find it. Sorry for bad quality, I only had my phone on me; feel free to frass if not needed.

Paectes declinata?
The moth is listed on Powell's checklist for the island (no related species are included) and it does look a lot like Jeff Smith's pinned specimen at MPG:

There are only two images of this species in BugGuide, and surpringly there are no Euteliids for California on bugguide at all. Makes me sorta wish I had my camera.

Can't comment on species…
But cool find! I didn't realize the family hadn't been recorded on the west coast on BugGuide before! By coincidence, a different species of Paectes wandered into my house tonight.

Thanks!
I had no idea either. And nice find yourself - must be Paectes season. Apparently this species is associated with laurel sumac which is pretty common here... knowing that, hopefully I can manage to run into another one (next time with my camera, hopefully).
