Moved
Moved from Phytomyzinae.

Owen gave an unqualified ID of Aulagromyza populicola. Still wouldn't hurt to try and rear a male if the opportunity arises--that species is supposed to make an irregular blotch mine rather than linear, and it is supposed to pupate externally. Previous records: Europe & Ontario (i.e., first record for the USA).

Another female, but...
I found 3 mines this year. One was pupating internally, but moribund. Another pupating internally, and I'm not sure. However,a third one pupated externally and yielded a female fly.

This would be a good one...
to send to Sonja.

Moved
Moved from Leaf Miner Flies.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Leaf Mines.

I've found similar mines, and they don't seem to match any of the known Populus miners. Pupation is external, so I don't think the blackish object at the end of the mine is a viable puparium.

An adult
emerged yesterday!

Nice!
The two genera recorded from Populus are Agromyza and Aulagromyza. This might be the latter, but I'm not sure. I hope you get a male too, but even if this can only be identified to genus, it will be interesting information. Did it pupate in the mine?

Phytomyzinae
The adult belongs to subfamily Phytomyzinae.

yes
but finding a male is unlikely. This is the only mine I could find. Maybe next year!
