Mantoida maya nymph - Mantoida maya

Mantoida maya nymph - Mantoida maya
Tampa, hillsborough County, Florida, USA
June 25, 2016
This was a very exciting find. I collected 4 nymphs of this species, but saw even more. These mantids can be found in areas that are sandy and have pine trees. The sand in the area must be constantly moist and compact feeling. Areas much like florida sandhill environments are good places to find this species. Where I collected these nymphs it rained a lot and had tree cover keeping the area very moist. All nymphs were found on or around the ground on fallen sticks, logs, and branches.
