Large Caterpillar Blending into Buckthorn Trunk - Tolype

Large Caterpillar Blending into Buckthorn Trunk - Tolype
Lower Wisconsin Riverway Sauk Prairie Unit, Sauk County, Wisconsin, USA
July 8, 2016
I saw two of these large caterpillars on a buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) trunk that I was sawing down. I'm guessing they feed on one of the vines that were crawling up the tree (grape, Virginia Creeper or poison ivy).
