Bittacus sp - Bittacus - male

Bittacus sp - Bittacus - Male
Great Falls, C&O Canal NHP, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
July 3, 2016
Using the key to Illinois Bittacidae (1), this one appears to be Bittacus strigosus (apices of wings not dark brown, apical crossvein absent, position of the subcostal crossvein not visible but it’s clearly not distal to the first fork of Rs, crossveins margined). The catch is that the key says the wing membranes of this species are “colorless” (vs. “yellow to pale brown”). However, some of the guide’s photos ID’d to this species also appear to have yellowish wings (for example: here and here.)

I’d appreciate someone with more experience weighing in on the species ID. Thanks in advance for the help
