Fiery Searcher - Calosoma scrutator

Fiery Searcher - Calosoma scrutator
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
July 10, 2016
Size: 1.5 inch
He was found in downtown Toronto inside the lobby of a high rise commercial building. I picked him up and he definitely gave off his signature foul odour. He was released into bushes outside the building where there is ground cover, lots of soil, and probably lots of caterpillars. He was unsure of my holding him at first but then settled in and sat for a picture. He didn't bite. I've lived in Toronto for 20 years and have never met this creature. He's gorgeous!
