First instar caterpillars VIDEO eggs laid by this pictured specimen.

sexing
How can these be sexed? Very few of the observations seem to have sex indicated so I assume it's non-trivial. Just curious.

Viable eggs with caterpillars →Female
Yes, I understand your curiosity, and you can even find out that I'm not a moth person at all, simply by clicking my profile link to look at my contributions to the BugGuide. I didn't dissected the specimen to figure out whether it has genitalia of male or female. I found out only by the fresh eggs laid in series of days.after the collection (in vial), and caterpillars hatched out of those eggs (The moth was still alive that time, so that potentially eliminates the caterpillars being a parasitic). I never uploaded eggs on anywhere online, so I can't share an image, but here is a link to YouTube, of caterpillars hatched out of eggs.

thanks
When I see mating pairs online one has it's wings tucked into the wing "tube" of the other, plus one is a slightly different color. But aside from those situations it seems a total pain. Thank you!

Oh, wow
Oh, wow, really? I had no clue. I've never seen them mating either. This species often fly over to my light trap in a small number. There are some Alianthus trees around my place, but had no luck finding any caterpillars of adult moths flying around the flowers.
