...don't let me change your mind. You could very well be right, and I honestly don't have a clue one way or the other. :)

 
Some details
I try to be very thorough with details and the placement of the hairs appeared to be significant. they matched with some of the extremely clear photos and I thought that was more than sufficient. I'll take any good advice.

 
It might very well be sufficient.
I only know that some very similar critters have been left at genus by folks who know a lot more about flies than I do--and I tend to err on the side of caution.

But that's just me. The images are yours, so please use your own best judgement as to their placement.

 
Experts
I'll leave it to the experts. Someone will come along and, if this is determined to the species level, will make note of it.

For those of us completely intimidated by Calyptrates...
...can you share the features that led to the species-level ID? It seems that most of the other specimens from NJ have been left at genus.
