White bug - Anthopotamus verticis - male

White bug - Anthopotamus verticis - Male
Lily Pons Water Gardens, frederick County, Maryland, USA

Size: 2 inches

Moved from Anthopotamus.

I concur with Roger
I believe that Roger's suggestion that this is Anthopotamus verticis is probably correct. (See the comments here.) However, the 2" size estimate must have included the long tails, as no North American mayfly has a body that long. This specimen probably had a body length of ~8-9mm.

Thanks, Tom.
Thanks, Tom.

Anthopotamus male imago
This mayfly is of family Potamanthidae (Hacklegilled Burrower) and genus Anthopotamus. There are three Anthopotamus species in Maryland, Anthopotamus myops, A. neglectus, and A. verticus. Yours is a male imago, and would appear to be Anthopotamus verticus.

Ephemeroptera
I do thnk this "bug" belong to the ephemeroptera order.
But this is an order i'm not very familliar with, so i won't go any further.
